Buck and Breck is a bar shaped by intimacy, precision and restraint. Hidden in the heart of Berlin Mitte, it was conceived as a place where guests meet the bartender on a highly personal level and experience cocktail culture in a calm, concentrated setting. The design by Ingo Strobel of Kamae Environments in 2010 responds to this closeness by creating an atmosphere that feels warm, composed and deliberately removed from the city outside.

When the opportunity arose to expand the bar with a second room in 2015, the challenge was not simply to enlarge the existing space, but to extend its character without losing the finely tuned intimacy of the original. Rather than repeating the same gestures, the new room reinterprets the experience through a different spatial language. A large upholstered seating landscape brings guests together in a more relaxed way, forming folds and smaller groupings within one continuous sofa island. It allows for both privacy and interaction, preserving the closeness of the front room while giving it a new expression. 

The bar itself continues this idea of direct encounter. Instead of reinforcing distance, it is conceived as a piece of serving furniture placed openly within the room, reducing the threshold between bartender and guest. The result is an interior that supports Buck and Breck’s distinct approach to cocktails: precise, understated and deeply focused on the experience itself.
